Of course it does. I am learning to up my voice with the top-level of management and you should too.
I have always been assertive on topics that I am well versed in. In today’s work environment that’s not enough. You need to amplify your convictions and take bold steps. The only way to do this is to speak up (have your voice heard). I used to think that you should not monopolize conversations or push to hard…
Well I was wrong. Those who squeak get greased. Those who force decisions get answers.
We are all working in the world of overload today. Not enough time to prioritize or execute. Simplifying and prioritizing is important, come on everything just can’t be a priority. The last few weeks I have been doing this more and more…and the results are ridiculous. squeaking works, maybe just for the short-term but it works.
Here are a few things to consider before you rant:
Do you have all the facts and are you certain you are right?
Can you live with a negative response or a pushback?
Do you have a plan B and maybe even a plan C?
There are no guarantees, however as I have been told many times: “you don’t get if you don’t ask”.
